Integrated Design | housing projects |
D-Wincheringen, near Luxembourg

In this project we performed an "integrated tuning" of six contemporary designs created by Odos and Philippe Schmit architects for economic, ecologic and energy efficient housing:
- construction and energy standard
- energy concept and building equipment
- deployment of renewable energies
- economic lifecycle costs analysis

All recombinations and variants have been analysed and compared regarding invest- ment cost and longterm utilisation costs. Depending on design, location and energy concept we individually identified the opti- mal investment and best overall concept.

To cover different customer preferences we developd three energy concepts for each individual design:
"comfort" - high-efficiency heating
"eco-comfort" - ecological heating concept
"eco-plus" - renewable heat sources only

For each variant we simulated various zeroEnergy-Generation concepts:
"plusEnergy" - generating more energy than needed for its operation
"zeroPE" - primary energy neutral in operation and household
"zeroEnergy" - supplying the complete energy demands for operation and household demands

Despite the limiting size and utilisation the designs reach an on-site consumption of up to 60% of electrical energy, including household, by use of building-integrated photovoltaic solar collectors only.

The energy standard of the developed variants varies between EnEV-"Effizienz- häuser" and Passivhaus variants. From condensing heating to wood fire stoves, from Effizienzhaus to Passivhaus - depen- ding on design and life choice we compa- red the investment strategies and complete life cycle costs of the developed variants and concepts, thus identifying the most economic variants.
